IP transit is an Internet connectivity service provided by a network operator. It allows you to connect your infrastructure (servers, network) to the Internet via a dedicated high-performance connection. Unlike a standard Internet connection, IP transit offers bandwidth, latency and availability (SLA) guarantees, as well as the ability to use the BGP protocol to control your routing.
A cross-connect is a direct physical fiber optic connection between your equipment and ours in the same datacenter. It offers the lowest latency and best performance. A GRE tunnel is a virtual connection that goes over the Internet, faster to deploy and does not require physical presence in our datacenters. Cross-connect is recommended for production, GRE for testing or rapid deployments.
No, it is not mandatory. We can configure your transit with static routing if you do not have an ASN. However, if you want full control of your routing (multi-homing, failover, announcing your own prefixes), an ASN is required. We can assist you in obtaining an ASN from ARIN if needed.
95th percentile (burstable) pricing measures your bandwidth usage every 5 minutes throughout the month. The top 5% of samples are discarded, and you are billed on the remaining 95th percentile. This allows you to absorb occasional traffic spikes at no extra cost. It is the industry standard model for IP transit.
Yes, Anti-DDoS protection is included in all our IP transit plans at no additional cost. Our mitigation infrastructure can absorb attacks up to 3.2 Tbps with automatic detection in under 3 seconds. Legitimate traffic is not impacted during mitigation.
For a GRE tunnel, activation can be completed within 24 to 48 hours. For a fiber cross-connect, allow 5 to 10 business days depending on the datacenter and port availability. We work with the Cologix and Equinix teams to expedite the process as much as possible.
